Green Walls on Lake Street
Earth Wizards worked with the Lake Street Council to apply for a grant from the City of Minneapolis to develop graffiti prevention demonstration projects. Lake Street Council received the grant and Earth Wizards will be installing one or more "green facades" on east Lake Street in 2008.
A green facade uses a trellis system attached to the exterior wall of a building to grow plants along the wall. This is a bit like ivy growing on a wall, except that the plants are kept a few inches from the surface of the building to reduce damage caused by plant structures.
We believe that green facades will make these exterior walls less attractive for grafitti tagging. One potential site is Falconer's Laundry near 13th & Lake.
Contact is if you have any questions or would like to learn more about the project.
