Gaughan Properties (2005), Forest Lake
FEATURES
BACKGROUND Poor drainage and unstable subsoils resulted in a parking lot where stormwater stood in pools after rain events.
SITE SPECIFIC CONCERNS/GOALS The parking lot had been constructed near a wetland. Excavation revealed water levels that were very near the surface.
SOLUTIONS Existing blacktop and base gravel were removed and stockpiled for re-use. Unstable soils were removed and underlying soils were graded during dry weather to decrease wetland impacts. We installed a Geotextile Tensar system that added horizontal strength to the site. The stockpiled material was used to build a more stable base for the parking surface. A recycled hot asphalt mix was installed on top. Now 3 years old, the new lot withstands countless garbage truck runs, spring thaws, and regular automobile and truck traffic.
